Wait just a minute

Lucy was saying as I loaded the “girls” this morning.
I can understand that you’re leaving Sammy P. because Penny and Sally Mae had been in heat, but what the heck does that have to do with me?
My desires for Lucy to keep Sammy P from getting lonesome and maybe into mischief was met with a sullen attitude that remained even when I brought the “girls” back from today’s hunt.

We hunted Plunker’s in Chambers County, Alabama today. Plunker was sporting a new shotgun, a new vest and a new set of snake chaps

And it was a good half day hunt consisting of Plunker, Middle Boy, myself and the “girls”, Penny Sue, Sally Mae, Sister Sissy, Katie and Lil Bit, our newest puppy.

Final Score
We got 3. Yep, we’re back to the “we” system.
Middle Boy started us off with a kill in some really thick briars after Plunker missed a couple of shots with his new shotgun

Lil Bit got her first smell of what all the excitment has been about.

Lil Bit has the makings of a good rabbit dog. She has been out three times now and shows very little interest in being around me. I saw her the last trip out, running in the middle of pack, hollaring for all she was worth. I don’t think she knew what was going on, but she knew she wanted to be part of it.

Plunker got a chance to break in his new shotgun. I watched as he jerked his foot out of the way and threw a shot at a rabbit that was charging him. No meat was ruined. Plunker had shot his head off.
I would be remiss if I didn’t apologize to Sister Sissy. She opened up first and loud, running the rabbit till the other “girls” caught up. The suddenness of the race and the fact she was running alone had me thinking evil thoughts that related to “trash”

Shortly after Plunker killed another on the side of the steep hillside that runs across most of his property. Plunker packs a lot of acreage in a small perimeter.

We had 8 or 9 races this morning with 3 killed. It was tough for the three of us to hem them up and at least 2 raced into holes in the creek banks.

Final score
Plunker 2
Middle Boy 1
rimfire 0 I haven’t even seen a rabbit much less had a shot
